Are you illegally here in the United States? When filing a U.S. tax return, don’t forget to use the additional child tax credits-even if you’ve paid no taxes! You won’t even need a social security number! And here is the best part, you can claim your nieces, your nephews and anyone you think may be dependent on you. The more you claim, the more you get back.
A three-month bombshell investigation by reporter Bob Segall revealed the scam by way of a long-time Indiana tax preparer who provided scores of redacted tax returns and by interviewing illegal immigrants taking part in the scheme.
Illegal immigrants can qualify because even people not authorized to work in the U.S. are supposed to file returns with the IRS. If they don’t have a Social Security number, they are provided what’s known as an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number in order to file returns.
And those filers are not excluded from claiming the Additional Child Tax Credit, which is offered to some families with children under 17 years old… “Washington is disconnected from reality.”
Last year, according to 2010 report, it found more than $4 billion a year in cash refunds are flowing to illegal immigrants who are claiming multiple children living in Mexico on tax returns and are able to exploit a loophole in the IRS tax code with impunity.
This year, 2012, illegals are expected to receive $7.4 billion through a provision known as the Additional Child Tax Credit.
Earlier this year, Senate Budget Committee Jeff Sessions, R-Ala, co-sponsored a bill to bar illegals from receiving the credits, but as usual, the bill was blocked by “Whispering” Harry Reid from reaching the senate floor. Reid’s heart bled and said that the bill was targeting the children of low-income Hispanic families.
Food for thought: Millions of illegal immigrants are getting a bigger tax refund than you.
